First of all -- Welcome. Bienvenido. Wilkommen. I’m Kate and I am a travel photographer based in Victoria, Canada. I quit my job in 2012 to pursue travel and photography and since then I have been to about 45 countries, worked with tourism boards and participated in press trips, helped imagine and launch The Giving Lens (combining travel photography and giving back), taught workshops in places like Cambodia,  Jordan, Tanzania, and Mexico, climbed the ranks at Matador Network (a very large travel website) from casual contributor to Lead Photo Editor (overseeing all photo essays incoming), and became the first woman sponsored by Sony Canada. So, it’s been a busy 8 years and I’ve learned a lot. What I hope to share in this course is a firm foundation on which to pursue travel photography, whether a little or a lot. It can feel like an impossible genre to navigate but rather than a map (exact instructions on how to be “good” at it) you just need steady feet (foundational concepts) to land on so you can roll with whatever is around the next corner.
